I HAVE LUPUS HOWEVER LUPUS DOES NOT HAVE ME

I've met Latoya White a while back and we talked about doing the session with dealing with her battle with Lupus and I want to share her story in her own words.

I've been living with lupus for over 4 years as of now. I changed careers from a Retail Associate, to Public Services. I felt as if my career move gave my body a physical jolt. Nevertheless,  after my body shut down on me for the last time, I pleaded with my physician to help me figure out the cause of my body experiencing severe pain also major swelling. As well as the daily task of dealing with being so Fatigued and lifeless. He ran several test to rule out Cushions disease, multiple sclerosis as well as lupus. I informed him that " I DON'T HAVE LUPUS!" I then learned about 3 days later that ...I DO HAVE LUPUS!!!!
I chose to embrace life and celebrate living by taking these pictures!  My images not only speak LIFE with LUPUS, however life for May is not only national Lupus month, but the month in which I lost my grandmother.
As a mother.  A wife. A caregiver.  An Eastern Star. A child of God. An Victims Advocate. An Police Officer, I live to advocate and speak LIFE!!!
For I MAY HAVE LUPUS, however LUPUS DOES NOT HAVE ME!
L-SIGNS UP!

Lupus Is an autoimmune disease. In a healthy immune system, the body produces antibodies which destroy unhealthy cells such as bacteria, viruses and foreign waste. However, lupus causes an overactive immune system to produce auto antibodies which attacks healthy body tissue. This can affect most parts of the body including any organ. There are over 5 million people with lupus of which 90% are female.Lupus Awareness Month is observed during May to increase public understanding of this cruel and mysterious disease that ravages different part of the body.
